WWI Places of Remembrance
WWI had a profound impact on Belgium and the landscape has forever been marked by the horrific battles that took place here. This was Ambassador Adlers’ first visit to places of remembrance from that time. Tyne Cot Commonwealth Cemetery, the Langemarck German Cemetery and the moving Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing. His last stop was the Essex Farm Cemetery where John McCrae wrote the poignant poem “In Flanders Fields” with its message about life and death, war and duty that still resonates with us.
