Security Alert: Threat level raised to level 4 in Brussels following fatal shooting
2 MINUTE READ
October 17, 2023

The threat level has been raised temporarily to a level 4 for Brussels and level 3 for the rest of Belgium following an incident earlier this evening when a man shot and killed three people, injuring several near Boulevard d’Ypres near Place Sainctelette. The motivation appears linked to terrorism. Security measures have been enhanced particularly around King Baudoin Stadium where a Belgium-Sweden football match is underway, the suspect remains at large. Avoid the area, follow guidance of local authorities and remain alert to your surroundings.

Belgian authorities are currently asking all residents to avoid non-essential travel in Brussels. We will advise if Belgian authorities change their guidance, but at this point, staff should plan to telework on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
