Operation Benjamin Headstone Ceremony
Friday, April 28, 2022 Ambassador Adler was honored to represent the United States at Ardennes American Cemetery, the final resting place of men from diverse backgrounds and faiths, and where two graves misidentified for decades with Christian crosses have now received Stars of David to reflect the fallen heroes’ faith and identity.
Participating in the ceremony and watching the changing of the headstones was deeply moving for the Ambassador, especially since these airmen flew on B-17s, the same aircraft his father flew in WWII.
He thanked Operation Benjamin and the American Battle Monuments Commission for their tireless dedication in honoring all our fallen heroes.
At long last, Lieutenants Joseph M. Sugarman, Jr. and Kenneth Earl Robinson are appropriately identified as they lie in the company of 5,160 U.S. comrades in this cemetery, and among the tens of thousands of U.S. servicemen and women who died in Europe in the defense of freedom.
